Independent research and technology development
Innovative Solutions R&D LLC develops coherent measurement technologies that enable observations beyond the capabilities of conventional instrumentation.
Mission
Innovative Solutions R&D LLC develops transformative sensing and measurement technologies by translating discoveries in fundamental physics into practical scientific and engineering solutions.
Our work combines quantum sensing, accelerator science, microwave engineering, optics and advanced signal processing to enable measurements previously beyond the reach of conventional instrumentation.
Technology platforms
Methods that preserve and exploit phase information rather than relying only on conventional power detection.
High-sensitivity techniques for monitoring spin dynamics and polarization in storage rings and precision experiments.
Advanced resonators, microwave instrumentation and electro-optic readout for weak-signal detection.
Why ISRD?
Traditional detectors often discard phase and coherence information. ISRD develops coherent approaches designed to recover that information and extend the reach of scientific observation across fundamental physics, medicine, aerospace, critical infrastructure and advanced sensing.
Applications
Axions, electric dipole moments and precision tests of symmetries.
Higher-fidelity RF and magnetic-resonance sensing.
Advanced RF awareness, resilient sensing and monitoring in complex environments.
Coherent readout strategies approaching fundamental noise limits.
Beam manipulation, spin metrology and storage-ring instrumentation.
Weak-signal detection, discrimination and high-reliability electromagnetic systems.
Leadership
Founder & President
Yannis K. Semertzidis is an experimental physicist whose work spans precision measurement, quantum sensing, electric dipole moments, muon g−2 and axion dark matter. He founded the Center for Axion and Precision Physics Research at the Institute for Basic Science in South Korea and previously served as a tenured Senior Scientist at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
His scientific record provides the technical foundation for ISRD's current work, while the company is organized around forward-looking technology platforms and applications.
Scientific foundation
Statistics are based on the INSPIRE-HEP author record and may evolve as the database is updated.
At Brookhaven E821, Yannis Semertzidis led the design of the electrostatic quadrupole focusing system and proposed, designed and built the pulsed magnetic kicker system. For Fermilab E989, the IBS-CAPP team designed, built and implemented an RF beam-manipulation system that reduced coherent betatron oscillations by about an order of magnitude and stored-muon losses by about a factor of five.
The 2026 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics recognized the Muon g−2 experimental program, including the CERN, Brookhaven and Fermilab collaborations. Yannis Semertzidis contributed to the Brookhaven and Fermilab collaborations.
Leadership in the development of high-sensitivity haloscopes, cryogenic microwave systems and new coherent electro-optic detection concepts.
Long-term development of electric-dipole-moment methods, storage-ring concepts and coherent polarimetry.
Our direction
ISRD is focused on converting coherent measurement concepts into practical systems for science, medicine, aerospace, critical infrastructure and sensing. The objective is not only to improve existing instruments, but to create new capabilities where conventional approaches reach their limits.
